This Saturday evening; Our Scór Team will for the first time ever be respresenting Galway in the Connacht Senior Scór Finals in the Temperance Hall, Loughrea . Our Team of Jim Cotter, Shane Hayes, Aodán Coyne, James Frawley & Lorcan Brady will be competing in the Instumental Music section. They will be up against: - Liatroim / Leitrim Gaeil Liatroma/Leitrim Gaels
- Maigh Eo / Mayo Aghadh Mór / Aghamore
- Sligeach / Sligo Droim Chliabh - Ros Ceite / Drumcliffe - Rosses Point
It promises to be a great evening of entertainment and the competition gets underway at 6pm. A large crowd is expected so supporters are advised to arrive early. For those who cannot attend, live updates will be published throughout the evening on twitter.com/gaaroscommon
If you are a real die hard supporter you might also take in a match in Ballinasloe beforehand but the timing might be a bit tight. Saturday evening will see Aaron Connolly represnt St. James' on the Galway Minor Team who kick of their Connacht League Campaign in Ballinasloe at 5pm where they take on Longford. The panel saw a cut in numbers during the week so Manager; Gerry Fahy may still be expirimenting with his team. Hopefully Aaron will start or at least get a run out in the match. (Before you ask; I don't know how Longford are playing in the Connacht Minor League)
Sunday morning kicks off with our first Minor League game against Moycullen in Moycullen @ 11:30am
Eoin Concannon and Paul Conroy have both made the starting 15 for the National League game against Tyrone. Eoin comes in for the injured Michael Meehan while Paul holds his midfield spot. The match is in Tuam Stadium at 2:30pm and Galway are under massive pressure to produce a result that will help them stay in Division 1 for next year. |

On a sunny afternoon in Pearse Stadium St. James Minors beat Corofin by 4 points. It was a hard match with some great scores. Corofin with the wind built an early lead of 5 points and hit the post also. Then a specular goal was well finished by Sean Glynn to put a bit of smacht on the Corofin boys. St. James never looked back and were behind by only 3 points having played into a gale force wind at half-time. In the second half St. James scored 9 points and were unlucky not to get another goal as the shot hit the crossbar. The game finished St James's 1-11 to Corofin 1-7. This was a very sweet victory as we had to beat a team from the top Club in the County. Martin Collins of Corofin, well known to St. James had the unenvyable task of giving the Corofin salutation in the victorious dressing room after the match. We hope that this star studdied team of St. James's go on further and bring Senior glory to our Parishes and Community in the years ahead. These players have all the talents that any Club in Ireland could wish for. Celebrations including a few tunes on the tin whistle lasted well into the night and we gave thanks to the Good God this morniing at Church to have the GAA live and well in our Club 125 years after it was founded on this day. St. James' drew with Micheal Breathnachs tonight on a scoreline of St. James' 4-8, Micheal Breathnachs 2-14. St. James' led for most of the game but a goal from the opposition but James' a point behind. St. James' came back to level the game in the third minute of injury time to level the game. The result causes a bit of a nightmare for the people making the fixtures with the winners of this game suppose to play Corofin in the County Final on the 4th September. This weekend James' play the Junior B West Board Final and the following Weekend James' play in the County Intermediate Final. Breathnachs also have an important Minor Hurling game this weekend. We will post the date as soon as we get it. |

"This Minor match was a classic by any standards and had many great passages of football and scores" The first half had St James playing with a slight advantage of a cross wind. Both teams missed many chances and St James led by 4 points to 3 at half time. The second half began well for Killanin and mid way into the second half took the lead by 2 points. However St James brought on 4 substitutes and this turned the game. Phillip Ryan scored 2 goals, one being a penalty. Mark Murphy scored a 45 meter free after just coming on the field and it drew the biggest roar of the night. Man of the match for St.James was Shane Coughlan who ran himself into the ground, as did Lee Vahey. St James scored 2-2 without reply to finish on a high note. Killian Murphy deputised in goal and kept a clean sheet. Others to shine were Cathal Walsh, Aoran Connolly, Jonathan Ruane and Sean Glynn. Our forwards struggled a bit on the night mainly due to the tight pitch. The Final score was St James 2-9 to Killanin 0-10 a well deserved result. Killanin will rue missing so many chances and had their heroes in the Sweeney brothers. They were missing a few injured players also. St James always looked the stronger team. The excitement and satisfaction among the team and supporters was indicative of a night to remember in the Club. In the West Board Final St. James play Ml. Breathnachs. St James beat them narrowly in the League but they will provide tough opposition for our young stars next time out. We wish Nigel Walsh a speedy recovery having missed the game due to an injured foot. The experience of this game for St James should stand them in good shape to realise their dreams this year. |
